How to edit captions in Kaltura

1. Go to HuskyCT and click on My Media or go to Mediaspace, click on Guest and click My Media to login.

2. Click on the title of the video that you wish to edit captions of to open it.

3. Select Actions>Caption Requests

4. Choose Edit on the caption file listed. Note: Some users have had to click on Refresh List in order to see the caption file properly.

5. The caption editing portal will then open on a new window/tab. From this tab, you can edit the captions as needed. Once you have made the necessary edits, click the save, then approve to save and apply your changes.

How to add captions to a video in Kaltura

1. Go to HuskyCT and click on My Media or go to Mediaspace, click on Guest and click My Media to login.

2. Click on the title of the video that you wish to add captioning to open it.

3. Below the video on the right hand side click “Actions” and select “Order Captions”.

4. You can select different captioning options depending on your allowed options. The “Mechanical 70 to 80%” option is the only option currently configured, and is free of charge.

6. Click on the order captions to confirm your selection and the captions should be added within one business day.

If professional caption services are needed, UConn has a contract in place with 3Play media. Follow these instructions to create an account, then contact us to link your account to Kaltura.

Accessing Recordings in Mediaspace

This page goes over how to access your recording after a live stream event or lecture capture is over in Mediaspace. You can also do this in HuskyCT.

1. Go to Mediaspace and login

2. Click on your name drop down (upper right) and click on My Media.

3. Click on the blue “View Media I own” drop down and select either “Media I can publish or Media I can edit.” Both will bring you to requested live stream or recorded events.

4. To share a weblink to this video, click on the video thumbnail or title of the video.

5. Below the video on the right, use the “Actions” menu to select publishing.

6. Make sure “unlisted” is the option selected.

7. Lastly, use the share menu to view a weblink you can share with others.

Sharing A Kaltura Video outside HuskyCT

1. Go to Mediaspace.

2. Click on the Guest drop down (upper right) and click My Media to login.

3.Click on video you'd like to share to open it.

4. Click on the Actions menu below the video and choose Publish.

5. Select Unlisted and click save.

6. Click the share tab.  To get the link to share with others, simply go to your media page, click on the video you’d like to get the link for, and click the “share” button to view the link. You can now share this web link with others.

Accessing Recordings in HuskyCT

This page goes over how to access your recording after a live stream event or lecture capture is over in HuskyCT. You can also do this through Mediaspace.

1. Login to HuskyCT and navigate to where you’d like to put the recording.

2. Select “Build Content” and choose “Kaltura Media” from the drop down.

3. Filter from "Media I Own" to "Media I can Publish"

4. You can now select the media you wish to embed into HuskyCT. Finish the embedding process by giving the the post a name, and any other settings available to HuskyCT that you may wish to use.

How to allow others to edit your Kaltura Videos

1. Go to HuskyCT and click on My Media or go to Mediaspace, click on Guest and click My Media to login.

2. Click on the edit box of the video you’d like to share editing privileges with.

3. Click on the Collaboration tab, then click Add Collaborator.

4. Type the name of the person you wish to add as a collaborator and click add. This will give them access to edit and/or publish the videos.

5. Instruct this new collaborator that they can view and edit the content by logging into HuskyCT and go to MyMedia or log directly into Mediaspace and navigating to their media. They will need to change the drop-down menu of “View Media I own” to “Media I Can Edit” or “Media I Can Publish”

How to embed and share Kaltura quiz videos in Blackboard (Faculty)

This page gives details about adding Kaltura video quiz to your course in HuskyCT. It assumes that you already have content created or uploaded on your “My Media” page and created a quiz for it. If you have not already created content in you Kaltura portal or created a quiz, please follow one of the guides to do so.

1. To begin, log into HuskyCT and enter your course.  Kaltura Video Quiz is integrated in the Grade Center.  Therefore a column will automatically be created in your Grade Center once you follow these steps.

2. Click on the ‘Assessments’ button and select Kaltura Media under Mashups.

3. A new window appears with the option to select a video that is listed in your ‘My Media’ tab. Click on the select button for the video you’d like to add.

4. After selecting the media, give the content a name, and a description if necessary. You can also choose other options such as display dates and tracking via the ‘Options’ segment.  A column will be created in the Gradebook to record this quiz.

How to add a quiz to a pre-existing video in Kaltura

Kaltura has the ability to add simple quizzes into videos which you have already created or uploaded into the Kaltura platform. To learn about how to use the Kaltura Interactive Quizzes, head to Kaltura’s website for Interactive Video Quizzes or use this simplified guide below.

1. Login to HuskyCT and access ‘My Media’

2. From the ‘Add New’ drop down, select ‘Video Quiz.’

3. Select the video you’d like to create a quiz with by clicking on the select button.

4. Clicking on the 3 vertical buttons opens up the quiz options where you can edit things such as the name, welcome message, allowing viewers to change answers, and many more options.

5. Once you are finished with your quiz, click on the preview button to ensure there are no errors and it looks as you intend. There is no need to press save as all of your edits are saved as you work on it. You can now embed the quiz into HuskyCT using the embed guide.

How to embed videos from Kaltura in your assignment.

Once you have recorded or uploaded media into Kaltura, you can embed it in assignments using HuskyCT’s text editor. For instructions on uploading files to Kaltura, please follow one of the following guides.

Follow these steps below to embed a video into HuskyCT.

  1. Open the assignment and select “Write Submission” then “Kaltura Media” from the Mashups drop-down.

2. Once the My Media window opens, select an existing video from your My Media tab.

3. After pressing select, the video will now appear back in the text box where you can submit your content.
