How to record and or stream from a classroom

Scenario

I would like to live stream and or record an event/class.

Options

Self-Service Recording

Rooms defined with the "Self-Service Recording" in the Lecture Capture category contain equipment capable of recording the content shown on the main display (projector) along with the audio from your microphone. It automatically uploads your recording to Kaltura and assigns ownership based on the NetID entered when setting it up.

Self-Service Streaming

Rooms defined with "All" in the Lecture Capture category contain equipment capable of live streaming and recording. In addition to the main content and audio, there are cameras that will capture the front of the room. These cameras are set to a static position that is best suited for the front of the room. Users have the option of choosing three layouts while recording, content only, camera only, or camera and content.

Users that will be watching the stream, can head to AIT's Live Streaming page to find the link associated with the room.

Scheduled Live Streaming

Rooms defined with "Scheduled Live Streaming" in the Lecture Capture category contain equipment capable of live streaming and recording. These rooms are not self-service and need to be setup by AIT to support the recording and streaming. You can request this by filling out this form. There are limited resources available for this method so please fill out the form as soon as possible for your request.

Alternative Option: on-demand (not live streaming)

If you are unable to secure one of the rooms mentioned above, you can use this alternative option to record your personal laptop. Please note that you will need a microphone for your laptop in order to record your audio. The microphone used will determine audio quality of the recording, generally built-in microphones provide poor quality.

Kaltura

Kaltura is software that UConn faculty, staff, and students can use to easily record and upload presentations. These presentations can then be shared with anyone via a web link for on-demand playback. You can find instructions for installing and using the software.
